Mahjong 101- Sunday September 13th

Ready to learn the game everyone is obsessed with? Mahjong 101 is the perfect beginner-friendly class designed to teach you the basics of American Mahjong in a fun, relaxed, and social environment. We’ll cover tile recognition, reading the NMJL card, game setup, Charleston, basic strategy, and gameplay etiquette — all while learning hands-on around the table.

No experience needed! Your registration includes learning materials, use of Mahjong tiles and racks during class, and a 2026 NMJL card. Come ready to laugh, learn, and fall in love with the game.

  • We offer a range of solutions designed to meet youNot at all! That’s what our Mahjong 101 classes are for. We’ll teach you everything you need to know— from tiles to strategy—so you can confidently join the table.r needs—whether you're just getting started or scaling something bigger. Everything is tailored to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.

  • Mahjong 101 is for total beginners— learning the game, tiles, and basic play. Mahjong 102 is your next step, where we build on strategy, speed, and confidence so you’re ready for open play.

  • We recommend taking 101 (and sometimes 102) first so you can fully enjoy the experience and keep the games flowing smoothly.

  • Bring your NMJL card (current year) and yourself! We provide tiles, racks, mats, and all the mahj goodness.

  • It’s the official playing card from the National Mah Jong League that outlines all the winning hands for the year. You’ll use it every time you play American Mahjong.

  • Pricing varies by event, but most open plays are $10–$15 per person, and Mahjong 101 classes are typically $65 (which includes your NMJL card and learning materials).

  • All registration is done through our event links. Spots are limited, so don’t wait too long!

  • We totally get that life happens! Please cancel at least 24 hours in advance through your confirmation link. No-shows or late cancellations = no refund (it messes with our table setups!).

  • Yes, and they’re SO fun. We offer private lessons, parties, and corporate events. Grab your crew and we’ll bring the tiles (and the vibes).

  • We do! While we’re based in Durango, we’re always up for taking mahj on the road—Telluride, Santa Fe, Pagosa, you name it. W

  • Perfect — most people don’t! Come solo and leave with new mahj besties. That’s kind of our thing.

  • It’s a fun alternative Mahjong card created by The Mahjong Line with tons of hand options and a different scoring style. We mix it in at some events for extra variety.
